Business Problem Solving and Profit PlanningEven though business problems are as varied as there are different businesses, there are some common "threads" which are woven through each business.
Management Tips: Listen --- Listen to customers as well as your employees. Regardless of the business, you are selling satisfaction first, then your product and/or service. Satisfied customers will refer more business to you. Budgets --- Every business or person should operate from a budget. By using your last financial statements, you should more easily be able to prepare a budget. If you know of major changes forthcoming, they can be easily assimilated into your budget with the other figures remaining relatively the same. Budgeting becomes uncomplicated. Accounts Receivable --- Do you really need accounts receivable, or are there better ways to increase business while still providing your customers with the ability to charge. What about others in your industry? How do you handle open accounts? Retention --- Some studies have shown that it costs ten times as much to acquire new customers as it does to retain old ones. This relates well to your listening to your customers. Absent Ownership --- Generally, if your company runs well now in your absence, then it should be fine in the event of your disability or death. If it doesn't, then start training people now. One of the pleasures of owning your own company is the ability to be absent when you wish, even when it doesn't seem that way. Can't Miss Deals --- Deals or special franchises which sound too good to be true usually are. There are no free lunches and very few cheap ones. We can assist you in any purchase in which you might have an interest. Partnerships --- Most partnerships don't have as long a courtship as most marriages. If you find yourself in a short courtship, have an attorney draft a buy/sell agreement. This applies to corporations, family partnerships, and LLC's. Payroll --- The first check of your payroll should be your personal deposit to your bank. If you adopt this mentality, you will avoid many problems and save yourself money as well as many heartaches. This is not a tax to be taken lightly. Call us: 620.342.7435 We don't charge for an initial conference. We can discuss your concerns and determine just how we can help you the best.
